A Long December…..

It’s been a long year around here. I will spare the 2009 re-cap, and simply say that as this year comes to an end, I am so incredibly grateful that it is over. I look forward to very good things in 2010. I know that I would not be able to embrace the joys of 2010 quite as fully if I had not lived the pains of 2009 and for that I am grateful. I am grateful for the restored Hope that has made a home in me. The hope that comes from a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

This song is a haunting one, to be sure. But I love it. I love it because it speaks of hope. And of mending the broken. I listen to it every single New Years and remember to hope.

So as firecrackers blast in the valley that surrounds me, and young and old holler joyous strains of Auld Lang Syne, I nestle in and whisper to you….. Happy, Hopeful New Year. There is REASON to believe this year will be better than the last.

A Long December – Counting Crows

A long December and there’s reason to believe

Maybe this year will be better than the last

I can’t remember the last thing that you said as you were leaving

Oh the days go by so fast

And it’s one more day up in the canyons

And it’s one more night in Hollywood

If you think that I could be forgiven

I wish you would

(Na na na, etc. yeah)

The smell of hospitals in winter

And the feeling that it’s all a lot of oysters, but no pearls

All at once you look across a crowded room

To see the way that light attaches to a girl

And it’s one more day up in the canyons

And it’s one more night in Hollywood

If you think you might come to California

I think you should

(Na na na, etc. yeah)

Drove up to Hillside Manor sometime after 2 a.m.

And talked a little while about the year

I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower

Makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her

And it’s been a long December and there’s reason to believe

Maybe this year will be better than the last

I can’t remember all the times I tried to tell myself

To hold on to these moments as they pass

And it’s one more day up in the canyon

And it’s one more night in Hollywood

It’s been so long since I’ve seen the ocean

I guess I should

I have missed you these past two weeks! Hope you are enjoying your time off school and your visit with your Mom and getting to meet Wendy. It is so true, that the painful segments of life make us more appreciative of the less painful segments. I so relate to what you are saying here. Blessings…and Happy New Year to you, Tim and the kids!

Love that song, a lot of the Counting Crows song have such true-isms in them.
What a great music we make when we dance to the beat of the Lord- with all the highs and lows.
Blessing and lots of prayers for you guys in the this year that the Lord has made.
