Farm to Table: Monday thru Friday

FTT_Logo_2010_0The basic flow of our days will vary from week to week, I am sure, as we are nothing if not laid-back. Some may call it lazy, but really, we aren’t lazy, we just love to chill. Potato, potahto.

Anyhoo, my basic plan for this week looks like this:

We actually plan to start the beginning our week of Farm to Table fun Sunday with some strawberry picking and a wonderful afternoon spent playing Settlers of Catan – which really, is a game of strategic cultivation of natural resources. 🙂 Pictures to come!

Monday

Wake, breakfast & basic chores

Weekly menu planning & Grocery Shopping – teaching kids how to plan a menu from ingredients we have and then make a grocery list for the things we may need to pull it off.

Here are some of my favorite menu-planning resources:

1. Keep a Favorite Meal Ideas Binder – for all the meals you have created or cooked that your family loved. Some easy, some not, but all winners go here!

2. Love this post on how to plan a menu. Although I don’t shop the sales because quite frankly, that is way too much work. We just shop a few different stores for what we know is healthy, delicious and reasonably priced.

3. THIS just looks dreamy. Probably because I have an obsession with sticky notes and cute pens. I would be all over this… maybe we’ll set aside a day of camp to learn this system!? 😉

Lunch – teach kids the Johnny Appleseed Song (here is a link to it) & pray the Angelus before lunch. (Here’s a link to that too)

Dear St. Isidore, you know how normal it is to cultivate the land for you were employed as a farm laborer for the greater part of your life. Although you received God’s help materially through Angels in the field, all farmers are aided spiritually to see the wonders God has strewn on this earth. Encourage all farmers in their labors and help them to feed numerous people. Amen.
